CAMERASCOPE VIEWER

right_menu

The earliest viewer on this web site, the Camerascope was produced in 1927 by Cavanders Ltd and was used to view stereo cards that were given away in packets of Army Club brand cigarettes. The viewer is made from black painted steel. When unfolded the front and back are held in place by two pairs of springs.

There were many sets of cards to be collected with names like "Peeps into Many Lands" and "Peeps into Prehistoric Times", to name just two. These sets consisted of either 24 or 25 stereo pairs. Initially the images on the cards were black and white photographs, but later on hand coloured colour sets were introduced.

There were two cards for each image, appropriately marked 'left' & 'right' on the reverse side.
